NCN 23 - Cufaude Lane Closure

NCN 23 has been closed at Cufaude lane due to road works, since Monday 26 October, for 6 months. Less than a fortnight's notice was given. Despite this being a National Cycle Route, no provision has been made for cyclists. The sign posted diversion is via Sherfield on Loddon and the busy A33, which is not suitable for a cycle route.

The route is now Open.

The developer, Croudace, when first contacted, claimed to be unaware that this was a national cycle route. After further phone calls, they agreed that the a A33 is not suitable for cyclists and would put up an alternative diversion for cyclists. They promised that this would be in place by the time the road was closed. This has not happened.

Former councillor Martin Biermann has asked for a direct alternative using land the other side of the railway line (Razers Farm), which is where Croudace will be building houses. So far, nothing has happened. More can be seen on chineham facebook and on cyclestreets

One local cyclist managed to get though on the on the first weekend after being closed, but this is no longer possible.
