East of Basingstoke SPD

The Local Planning Authority has prepared a Draft Development Brief to guide future development at East of Basingstoke and at Redlands in north-eastern Basingstoke. The Development Brief will have the status of a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD).

The Brief sets out principles that will guide future development across both site allocations of approximately 615 homes and adds further detail to the policies in the Local Plan. It address the full range of issues affecting the development of the sites including environmental quality, transport and access. Public consultation on the draft ran from 20 January to 3 March 2017.

Two planning applications were submitted for the site (Land At Redlands, Reading Road, Sherfield-on-Loddon), before the SPD was in place.

Cycle Basingstoke commented on both documents to highlight the need for good cycling access to these areas.

  • SPD adopted in July 2017 (Council website). The transport considerations seem to improve on the provisions in the Local Plan document. Of particular importance is that pedestrian and cycle movements are prioritised over car movements and that cycling is catered for in all traffic management schemes.
