Land at Manydown was allocated for development in the Basingstoke and Deane Local Plan.

As the joint owners of a 999-year lease on the land, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and Hampshire County Council decided to involve the community in producing a masterplan for the development of the northern part of Manydown (see Basingstoke and Deane website for further details).

Cycle Basingstoke has provided input at the community design workshops (November 2015) and submitted comments at the Masterplan consultation (March 2016).

An application for outline planning permission for land at Manydown has been submitted now.

Both Cycle Basingstoke and SWAG (South West Action Group) objected to the transport proposals in the planning application.  There was no cycle infrastructure to allow people living in Manydown to reach any of the popular destinations outside the site, especially the hospital, train station and town centre. The cycle provision, or lack of it, was the usual piecemeal approach which required cyclists to walk.

The triangle between Pack lane and the station is not to have housing after all as transport access is too difficult.
