Basingstoke Cycle Strategy Meeting 10th September

Campaign members met with councillor Mark Ruffell and officers to review the draft Cycle Strategy for Basingstoke which will go to committee for approval on Thursday, 24 September.
Cycle Basingstoke is pleased that there is a proposed strategy and map.
We approve of arterial cycle routes along the main corridors (A30, A33, B3400, A340) but we are disappointed about the quality.  They are not straight enough, did not go far enough and seemed  to be mostly converted footways, not cycle specific. As an example we said we wanted a blue superhighway like the London ones all the way from the station to North Waltham with links to all the residential estates, shopping areas and of course the new hospital/Critical Care Unit.
This seemed to be welcomed by Mark Ruffell.
Officers said that the cycle corridors were indications of where routes would be and were "first phase" only subject to feasability studies.
