Local Plan and A30 cycle route

Cyclists were well  represented at the recent hearings on the Local Plan which dictates how many and where houses should be built.  We asked for a cycle superhighway along the A30.
There has to be "sustainable" transport provision i.e. easy to bus, cycle and walk everywhere. We all know that the cycle routes are often  indirect, inconvenient and incomplete.  We asked the Inspector
"How will children cycle to school at Richard Aldworth or Cranboorne  from new housing at Basingstoke golf course, Kennel farm, Hounsome fields or the new hospital?"
"how will commuters get to the station?".

Cycle Basingstoke is delighted that the Hampshire Highways  authority is now proposing a cycle route right next to the A30 and across the roundabouts!  We stressed we wanted a direct, straight route suitable for all types of cyclist and cycle, for all  speeds, a true cycle superhighway.

Developers only have to provide links to Existing and Proposed cycle routes.  This is not good enough. The rules are now going to be much stricter and comply with the new Cycle Strategy.
